Chess Club

Ecker Hill Middle School Chess Club registration for the Winter/Spring 2023 session is now open for all 6th and 7th graders. Please click the button below to access a printable version of the chess club registration form.

Chess club will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:50pm, starting Thursday, January 19th. We will meet in room 119. Numbers are limited to 20. If not enough students register, we may cancel. Students will attend either the Tuesday sessions or Thursday sessions, not both.

Although the students will be encouraged to compete in local/state chess tournaments, it is not required. We typically do a tournament the last 1-2 Sessions.

Chess day will be organized as Follows: A typical chess-club session will consist of 10 min. snack/set-up, 20-30 minute lesson and/or tactics; 20-30 m practice day’s lesson. Students will have time to play for enjoyment during this session and I can split the group according to ability and needs. Our coach will be Mrs. Mason. Mrs. Mason is a chess player herself. She has run numerous tournaments throughout the state and is the parent of one of the top chess players in Utah, Sam.

Book Club!

EHMS Book Club will meet after school on Wednesdays with Mrs. Rude in the library from 3:45 - 4:50 p.m.

Start date: Wednesday, September 21st

Students will choose the book at our first meeting and each receive a paperback copy to borrow. We will set up a reading schedule at the start of each book.
